LADIES OF GOTHIC HORROR (A Collection of Classic Stories) edited by Mitzi Szereto

Classic gothic horror stories from the literary mistresses of the past!

Many of gothic horror’s spookiest tales have come from the pens of women. Yet a substantial number of these women were overshadowed by their male contemporaries, especially with regard to the classics. “Ladies of Gothic Horror (A Collection of Classic Stories)” redresses this imbalance by bringing together a selection of gothic stories from the past written exclusively by women. Carefully edited and compiled by author and anthologist Mitzi Szereto, “Ladies of Gothic Horror” offers readers plenty of good old-fashioned chills and thrills. Whether you’re a devotee of the genre, a literature lover, an academic or a student, this volume of short fiction is sure to please. The biographies accompanying each story will show that these women were anything but typical for their time. Includes seventeen stories from authors Mary Shelley, Elizabeth Gaskell, Edith Wharton, Marjorie Bowen, Gertrude Atherton, Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Elia W. Peattie and many more.

28 GAYS LATER by Max Barber

Trapped in a sex shop by bloodthirsty, post-apocalyptic gay zombies, a poly-sexual group of survivors is faced with rescuing a party of homophobic Christian fundamentalists, or trying to survive a night with a psychotic gay serial killer amongst them

When there’s no room in HELL… the DEAD go clubbing.

What if the end of the world was the best thing that happened to you?

Trapped in a sex shop by bloodthirsty, post-apocalyptic gay zombies, a poly-sexual group of survivors is faced with rescuing a party of homophobic Christian fundamentalists, or trying to survive a night with a psychotic gay serial killer amongst them.

The world is on the brink of calamity, North and South Korea edge towards nuclear conflict; the Russians and the Americans are fighting over Arctic oil reserves. Worse than that, Mothers For Morals clash with the local gay community in Croydon, Surrey, and a crazed queer serial killer is stalking ‘straight people’ on the motorway nearby.

While civilization sits on the precipice, at a local civil partnership held at a disused nuclear bunker, the picket lines are drawn between anti-gay Christian campaigners and the local gay fraternity who are determined to enjoy the civil liberties they’ve fought so hard for – even though some dubious voices in the scientific community around them believe the gay gene is real and can be cured.

Stories from the past intertwine and converge with the present. Once you see to the heart of things life will never be the same.
Little by little we find how the disappearances of Rita and the cat, the menacing Frank, the shaman, Dave and his father, with his opaque family business, are linked in a tale of power, money and cruelty which began many years before.

La Lluna Plena – the Full Moon – that beautiful and mysterious celestial body which stirs within us all those deep, dark emotions we do our best to subdue and control. For some of us, her influence runs deeper, much deeper. We all walk beneath her maddening rays, yet, while most may shrug off the notion that inside us all resides a beast – a savage wolf – there are those of us who embrace the monster within and ride that lunatic wave with abandon each time she casts her gaze upon us.

Some see it as a blessing, others…a curse. To be bitten, and fall prey to murderous urges beyond our control, or to have the good fortune to be born into the pack, or perhaps even to whisper words of spell in order to evoke the lycanthropic gift, there are more than a few ways to cast aside the human skin and let loose the wolf within. Those ways are explored throughout this collection of werewolf terrors.

Suspend disbelief, dear reader, because whether you care to admit it, or continue to live in ignorant bliss, we walk among you. We smell the blood as it courses through your veins and taste your fear on the breeze. We long to see the life drain from your quivering flesh as we gorge. Beware the Full Moon, as you are about to enter the world of the Werewolf.

Scary books make everything so much better! I've been reading them since I was a wee, weird little thing and grew up with a steady diet of King, Koontz, Barker, and Brite and will read and watch just about anything with a hint of darkness.
